How to Quickly Remove Ice From Your Car Windows
Fill up a spray bottle with two parts rubbing alcohol (70-percent isopropyl alcohol) and one part tap water, says David A. Katz, M.Sc., a chemistry professor at Pima Community College in Arizona. Keep it at room temperature—not in your car—between uses.
Spray the mixture on your windshield and the ice will start melting immediately. Let it sit for a minute, then use your scraper to wipe off the ice, Katz says.
The mixture’s warm temperature causes some of the ice to thaw. Heat then transfers from that melting mess to the unbroken ice around it, which triggers even more melting.
So why not just splash regular room-temperature water on your windshield? While warm H2O would melt the ice, it’ll just freeze again, Katz says.
The rubbing alcohol/water mixture has a much lower freezing point (5 degrees Fahrenheit) than water’s 32 degrees. That means it won’t refreeze on your windshield unless the temperature outside dips close to 0 degrees, he explains.

=======================================
The 3 minute rule is for diesel engines with Turbos
It comes from Truckers pulling off of the Highway & into a parking lot & immediately shutting the diesel engine Off.
Doing that ruins the TURBO fairly quickly, because TURBOS need a stream of oil to cool down the fins in the turbo. Shutting off the diesel engine, cuts the oil off & the Bearing within the Turbo burns out due to no lubrication.
Truckers are suppose to pull into the parking spot & watch the trucks Pyrometer until it gets down to
3 or shut it down after 3 minutes. Whichever comes first.
What happened is when some paper pushers heard about those diesel engineers recommendations, they put 2 & 2 together & used it to combat air pollution.
Now truckers have to shut the diesel down after 3 minutes & at this time of year they would freeze their asses off while sleeping in the semi truck at night.
Now Trucking companies have to install an APU, auxiliary power unit, for heating & cooling
It can be powered by battery power, or small engines that have 1, 2, or 3 cylinders using gasoline or propane.
