I bought my 9011's from Rockauto. You can get either Philips for $17.19 or Wagner (which are marked Philips) for $8.56. I bought the Wagner units as a member (maybe you kelaog.?) said they were the same. I have snow now so I'm going to wait till spring to install them. You can get grill clips from Clips & Fasteners for a lot less than Mopar.

How many grille clips do people usually break so I know how many to keep on hand?

I'll wait 'till summer then

Did you go in through the wheel wells?

Hey dude I'm assuming you're running quads.

FYI: silverstar ultra's are a sham. The regular silverstars aren't too bad because they aren't heavily tinted to filter out yellow light. Phillips Xtreme Vision are one of the best bulbs on the market.

If you really wanna supercharge those quads you can do an H9 swap for the H11 in the low beam. This will yield about 2100 lumens from 1250, so almost double the light output. Because the low beam has a glarecap this shouldn't cause glare to other road users. I haven't actually tried this swap myself but theoretically it'll work. The stock circuit is rated for 15amps so even with the extra 10W you're no where near the limit.

For the highbeam you can run 9011's in place of the 9005's so that'll bring you from 1700 to 2300 lumens.

For the H9's just get regular phillips bulbs. They don't make any special lines for H9, but the upgrade on it's own will be whiter and way brighter. Life is shorter on the h9 compared to the H11 but that's about the only downside. But since you're just buying regular H9's they're cheap :)

For 9011's just get phillips(Or wagner...) as well.

You will need to trim the tabs a bit with nail clippers but this will take you about 5 mins.

Just google H11 to H9 swap.

Should be pretty obvious when you take your 9005 out of the highbeam and hold it up to the 9011 what needs doing same with the h9 vs the h11.

You'll notice this upgrade big time lol :)

Awesome explanation....THANKS!

I just did the change out with house brand H9 from Canadian Tire, they are made by OSRAM and have 2100 lumens. Now, I know it's daylight and I am in the garage BUT, they don't look brighter than the stock bulbs. Should I have upgraded to branded name....Phillips, Sylvania etc?

Thanks again!

Canadian Tire has them under their "certified" brand....made by OSRAM....for $13.99.

H9 or really any bulb is a standard that conforms to a few things like voltage, lumens, etc.

These have a tolerance. No H9 bulb can be 4000 lumens but they will have a nominal rating, lets say 2100 +- 15%. When you buy premium bulbs they are manufactured to the upper end of this. You could get 2415 lumens or 1785 lumens. Either way it's probably brighter than whatever h11 you took out of there.

IMHO Osram is a good brand and the ones that they sell to canadian tire are probably not on the upper end of that tolerance, but I doubt they're on the low end too.

Brightness is very difficult to tell by pointing lights at a wall. In the day light you'll likely judge this by color, which is deceiving. Bluer whites are perceived as bright while yellower whites are percevied as dim. However, this is misleading because the opposite is true as to how well they illuminate the night.

Test them at night and see if you notice the improvement. I think you will.

Also, as someone once stated... "Wall shots are great and all but how often do you drive into a wall?"

You're right. I will wait until later tonight.

Thanks.

Hello,
I appreciate your advice but I just looked at my manual for my 2016 Express and it says my low beams are H11LL. What bulb can I use to upgrade from that?
As an FYI, the manual says my hi beams are 9055LL, I will upgrade to the 9011.
Thank you, Frank

The LL just means long life so really a srandard bulb would be an upgrade. But in your case you can do the h9 upgrade as suggested.

Hope that helps.

On my Durango you can change the bulbs by just opening the hood; I am going to see if maybe the ones on the Ram can be done by crawling up from behind the bumper or something. I don't want to remove the grille and removing the whole housing seems wholly unnecessary

Good luck. Unless it has changed in 2013, when I pull my lights I can't even see any access points ecept the little trap door to access the last mounting point of the light. If you removed the mud guards you could probably get to the bulb... Pulling the grill is not that difficult mind you. 4 bolts and a couple tabs, 2 bolts for the lights. With an impact driver you can do it in a hurry :)

it took me longer to meticulously trim the tabs than it did to pull the grille and headlamp assemblies...but my hat is off to you if you find a shortcut!

I tried to remove the headlight with the grill on and found it was too easy to damage the right corner of the headlight assembly. I just loosened the grill so as to bring the grill forward a few inches to clear the headlight. I DID NOT remove the grill for fear of breaking the cheap plastic tabs. Otherwise, it worked fine.

So after reading all of this I purchased a pair of Wagner 9011 bulbs. Made by Philips in Germany. I have the projectors in my truck. Going to install them in just the low beams. Will this be an upgrade for them? Was seeing where one person did this on their 2016 and saw no difference.
