No Android Auto in 2017 8.4 system?

I've done some searching and from prior threads and other Internet pages it seems that Android Auto was not part of the 2017 8.4 radio system. Just wanted to double-check and make sure my understanding is correct. There is no way to get that stuff on a '17 is there?

Thanks,
Rob

Here is the thing- Magically the Apple version works via a software update but they can't do the same for Android mysteriously. I contacted FCA and they clain it is a hardware issue with the Harmon Kardon units. I don't believe them. I have also opened a case with Harmon Kardon informing them that FCA is slandering their good name by blaming them for the issue. There are plenty of threads with people stating that their salesmen assured them that an OTA update would solve the issue, which it did for Apple. FCA has offically told me that it will never ever happen for Android. Waiting to hear what Harmon has to say about this. Ridiculous in 2017 that a simple feature like that is not available on a premium vehicle.
Shame on FCA, they will lose many customers over this nonsense. And as far as trading for an 18 just for that, I consider that to be insanity. At that point just buy a 3rd party system like Navdy and call it a day.
What makes me so mad is that it is a safety issue, just take care of people.
The situation is absurd. They have known for years that people really wanted this feature and have done nothing about it.

No, it is not. Nothing about the fact that your truck does not have Android auto is a safety issue.

I get that you and many others want it but that statement is ridiculously out of proportion

Dont feel too bad we get nothing up here, not even the emergency numbers ect.
Hope we can get just an update when it does come and its free since i paid a fortune for my Ram.

I know my 13 doesn't, but don't think the 15 does either

So, it's a year (more...) later and I'm back revisiting this. As far as I can tell Chrysler never re-enabled Android Auto on my truck. I actually had the truck back to dealer today for a couple of the recalls and they updated the radio to the latest and still nothing. I called Uconnect support a couple weeks ago and they said "It should work... take it to the dealer for a reset." Obviously bad advice. Weird thing is that nobody at the dealer seems to know anything about it. They're all like "That should work." So either I am literally the only Ram owner to every ask about it not working or I'm the only one who can't get it to work.

So, does ANYONE with a 2017 Ram with the 8.4 radio actually have Android Auto and does it work?

Same here Rob, 2017 ram 1500 longhorn. Spent a small fortune on this truck and can never receive a straight answer from anyone...dealer, mopar, UConnect. No Android Auto

Your 2017 does not have and will never have Carplay or Android Auto. The hardware doesn't support it. The 2013-2017 8.4 models do support SIRI Eyes Free (with a software update) but that is an Apple thing and it is not the same as Carplay.

The 2018+ RAM's got new hardware that supports AA & Carplay. Those are the UAS (no NAV) and UAQ (NAV) units. If you go to Infotainment.com they sell retrofit kits, they are not cheap though. Replacing the unit is the ONLY way you are going to get AA or Carplay in your truck. If someone is telling you it is just a software update away on your existing hardware they are full it. If that is a Chrysler employee they should just go ahead and turn in their badge!

I'm in the process of looking myself.

But there are posts all over talking about Android Auto with 2014+ 8.4 units (from various Chrysler brands). And my truck had it on when I bought it but within a few days it was removed by Uconnect. So I'm confused...

some of the FCA had Apple Car Play in 2017

https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/

Dodge

2017 - 2018 Challenger
2017 - 2018 Charger

Chrysler

2017 - 2018 300

Jeep
2017 - 2018 Compass
The compass radio might possibly work in a Ram :4-dontknow:

If the 2017 Ram came with SPRINT as the service provider, it likely does not have Apple Car Play
If the radio uses AT&T as the service provider, it is very likely to have Apple Car Play

I don't think anyone with a stock headunit is running Android Auto on a 2014 (or a 2017)

I had the chance to try Android Auto out on a rental a couple of months ago and really wish this had been deployed on the 2017 Rams. Especially considering it was deployed on other FCA vehicles. My question is, isn't the hardware the same in these vehicles that have Android Auto and therefore, shouldn't they be able to update the Rams to the new software? My other question is, why is there no other place to buy a stock 8.4 head unit from the 2018 Rams than Infotainment.com? Nothing against them, but why doesn't FCA sell these through Mopar? The price on this upgrade is going to be around $2133 in Canada. Frustrating beyond belief. From viewing the installation video on Infotainment.com, it's a straight-up swap out and plug-and-play install. I think a grand would be a fair price, to be honest, 2 grand is just... Woah baby.

Unfortunately the hardware is different from 2018 and 2017 and before. 2017 and before is made by (I think) Harman Kardon and the 2018 is made by (again, I think) Panasonic. I could be wrong with the actual manufacturers, but I know for sure they are different. Along with the manufacturer change, was a hardware change that enabled Android Auto / Apple Car Play. The 2017 and earlier just don't have the hardware to do it, so a software update will never be available to enable it. Which is too bad because I would love to have Android Auto!

Hit up the auto wrecking yards for a 2018 or newer Ram or the fancy 2018 Jeep models
don't look at the cars or cheaper Jeeps, they don't run the same Canbus system

I had a 2017 8.4 headunit but now have a 2018 headunit i bought from infotainment.com. A lot cheaper than buying a new truck. Car Play works great so I suspect Andriod Auto would work as well. The unit I got had satellite radio activated so I assume I will get a year out of it. I was not interested in paying for the nav updates that come out sparingly, so to me it was worth it. And when satellite radio stops, I will use my internet satellite account on car play.

never had android auto, will never have it on a 2017 unless you swap out you stereo with a new model. the 2017 does not have the hardware to run android auto.
now I am not sure but some of the 2017 cars and maybe the grand Cherokee may have had it but it would be a different stereo, but again that i am not sure.
