Purge flow solenoid/canister

I've mentioned in other threads but haven't started my own official one on my recent issue. Was outta town last week for work. I've started a new job where I mainly work out of my house with the occasional out of state travel. So my truck has been sitting a lot the past month. I asked the wife to take it to work just to run it a bit. About a mile down the road she called me to say the check engine light was on. Coincidentally, I was flying back in that afternoon anyway, so I had the wife pick me up from the airport and we took the truck right to the service department.

I failed to jot down the code, but they have to order a new purge flow solenoid and canister? 5.7 Hemi with 5,006 miles. Parts don't come in till Thursday of this week, so hoping to get my truck back by COB Friday at the latest.

Until then, they've put me up in this 2018 Big Horn. A rather stripped down model compared to all of the options mine has, but I'm appreciative to be in a truck nonetheless. For only having about 7,000 miles on it, this poor thing has been abused! Dents and scratches all over the exterior, and the interior is just nasty. Smells of cigs, drywall mud on the cloth interior, etc. It's like a construction crew was packed in this truck for the first few months of its life.

I've been putting her to work as well hauling some furniture for my parents, storing some of their stuff in my garage until they move in to their new place this weekend.

Well, I guess in your case, there is only so many more parts that can be thrown at it. Really hoping they got it this time for ya.

How ya making out? I had a fuel pressure sensor go up in my 2015 Hemi at around 18k miles.

Hoping you're running CEL free for a while my friend!

Software update huh? Interesting. Well, I hope that is indeed the fix for you. Keep us posted.

So mines been good for a little over a month now. Purge solenoid didn't fix then replaced fuel tank didn't fix then some other sensor i cannot remember for the life of me today but was around filler neck or something. When i went to get my truck didn't say a word held my rental keys out until he handed me mine and walked out. Better off that way especially since there were like 2 older couples in there. Total joke on the service center here in Spokane. When you don't get only 1 call with no message and try for days to talk to someone on phone but they just let all go to voicemail. Knock on wood it stays off. but did have backup camera start rolling the other day but messed with the plugs and been ok since.

Got my truck back last night. They replaced something called an FTP, which me being an IT nerd, I learned it's NOT File Transfer Protocol lol. The gas tank had to be dropped to gain access. The mechanic said there was a small evaporative leak, which was in turn throwing the code. So I'm hoping this is the final fix. Will keep the thread updated.

Well, after no call this morning, curiosity got the best of me so I called for an update. They're still troubleshooting, not really sure where the problem is. Next step is to drop the gas tank to take a look at the mechanical/electrical components there.

Looks like I'm rolling in this Titan for a while longer. The thing was so covered in pollen that I actually washed it today. Of the many things I miss about my Ram, I am surprisingly really missing having a backup camera. At least for me, I really didn't realize how dependent I've become on using that when backing up in addition to the mirrors. Eh well.

I have not gotten this yet, fingers crossed if I do, its under warranty.

Just curious, when you fuel up, when it clicks do you force more in? I dont, GM’s had that issue too if more gas forced in after nozzle clicks off.

I was guilty of that in my 15' Ram and the service guy advised me not to "top off". I haven't done it on my 17' since I bought it. Both my 15' and 17' have had fuel/emissions system related issues very early on. FWIW, by 15' was fine after these issues got sorted out. I had that truck almost 50k miles with no issues. I'm hoping the same for my 17', but it seems to be having more frequent issues than my 15' did. I'm hoping they call me this morning with an update. I stalked my truck on the UConnect app and see that it was started at 7:30am Saturday morning, moved from the service bays to the parking lot. So I'm hoping that means it's fixed and ready to be picked up. Ready to turn this Titan back in! :hah:

Something has to have changed, this has been happening to newer trucks. My wife only drove my truck 800 miles in the 8 months I was deployed this year, then we drove an hour and a half home when she came to pick me up, which would fit the "sits for a while then drives" thing

I agree, this does seem to be more common of an issue on the newer trucks. Still waiting to see what the deal is with mine.

I just got the P0456 code and check engine light, 2017 CC Hemi 12K miles, going in for a checkup
Bummer. Please let us know your outcome. I'm certainly curious. I'll post my results once I hear from back about my truck.

P0456

It's hard to believe that after only a lil over a month and 544 miles, I had a CEL come on with the same exact code! P0456. Last time they replaced the charcoal canister, along with some tubes and hoses. I'm not sure what else could be the problem this time? Both times this CEL has come on, it's been after the truck has sat for a week or so, and then driven quite a bit. I put about 100 miles on the truck in 2 days after it has sat for a while. The CEL came on the second day. :4-dontknow:

I'm really curious about what is going on here with this. I have nothing but good things to say about my dealership. Just waiting to hear back at this point.

So after waiting 2 hours this morning not getting a call i called and did get through. First thing service advisor said i heard you were here to get your truck last night and couldn't. So my next comment was so is it done he said yes. well why didn't anyone call me and let me know. and with a few choice words i wont repeat...i said better be clean and gas filled they did. i walked in not saying a word since he was on the phone held out loaner clown car key until he handed me mine and walked out. Never again will i go to Lithia dodge Spokane. Buying there was the easiest of any and i do every 2 to 3 years. There service it is a complete joke. So how long was it gonna sit there until they let me know. Guess making extra money off charging Dodge for rental cars is possible.. Well now i surely hope not to see that light or any other again anytime soon.. But we will see..

Well now its been since the end of January and still not fixed they did put fuel tank in and didn't fix now some part or complete fuel pump. There service sucks horrible at lithia dodge in Spokane . I have had atleast 5 or 6 appointments now the truck has sat there all day atleast 3 times not touched no phone calls when they get the parts I call every time and oh yes there here . Well lets make a fricken appointment only to have no techs to work on it and no phone calls. Got to love lithia Dodge Spokane . I will not purchase anything from them again. Would rather go back to chevy or take my truck there they were always on top of things . Oh on thurs I did get a base fiat clown car great fit for 300lb guy NOT

2016 Ram 1500 5.7 18k miles bought new 1 year ago in Jan.Had the evap code they replaced solenoid lasted a few days light came on then went off for a week then back on for 2 weeks. Finally got it in today they are replacing fuel tank some valves built in keeping to much pressure in system i think they said. We will find out in 2 weeks when they do the work. I'm waiting for a seat track and getting both done at the same time.

Wow, replaced the whole tank huh? Did you happen to get your list of engine codes? Good luck, let us know how you make out.

P0456

Got my truck back today. The code ended up being P0456. The EVAP canister was replaced, along with some tubes and hoses. I wonder how common it is to have a part(s) like this fail after only 5k miles? Eh well, I know stuff happens. Just glad to have my CLEAN truck back! Just spent an hour detailing the inside of it. Wiped everything down, vacuumed, etc, to get rid of that shop smell, where she's been living for the past 6 days.

Poor thing

I feel like for an evap code they could have let you keep driving our truck until the parts came in. A new evap can shouldn't take too long to install and the truck shouldn't need to be in the shop more than a day-if that long.

I suppose that is the life of a dealer rental. But seriously what kind of cochino smokes in a vehicle nowadays-especially one that isn't theirs??

You're right, they did mention it wasn't a huge deal to drive it. But this was Friday of last week when I dropped it off and I was hoping to have it back Monday afternoon. I wasn't expecting to have to wait on parts having to be ordered.

But yea, it pains me to see this 2018 in such rough shape. Had the windows down yesterday and noticed cig burn marks on the door jam weather stripping. My wife said I'm nuts when I was considering vacuuming and cleaning it up a bit inside. It's just nasty in there!

Thanks GT. I'm sure that is what the code is/was. What's interesting is, I had this same code pop up on my 2015 Hemi, had that one read at the local auto parts store. By the time I got in for my service appt which was a few days later, the light went out on its own. :4-dontknow:
