May I asked if you contacted Ram "Care" and if so did they actually do anything for you? I also have a 2018 Power Wagon 36K and my ABS is out with no part available since September. I've called and email Ram Care. The Call went nowhere fast . . well Sir we do not consider ABS a safety issue nor is it part of the powertrain warranty etc etc etc S.O.L. and whereas my email was answered within 24 hrs Ram Care asked a follow-up question that moved my email from the answer within 24 hours queue to awaiting a response no one is actively monitoring queue.@ramcares 2018 Power Wagon 57k miles; same issues as listed. Been going on for months and seems to be getting worse. Ordered parts but no timeline on when they will arrive.

I had almost the exact same issue. It failed again in October and I went by the dealer a week before the 2 yr warranty was up. They were backed up and said call to make an appt. I did the next day, so felt I should be fine because common sense says it failed within the warranty period. Because it was ultimatley diagnosed a couple of days after the warranty expired, the dealer said no dice. I argued and pleaded with them and it became clear they were not going to advocate for me. I had to call RAM and get a case opened, which was a chore. A month and a half later, they have done the right thing and agreed to cover the majority of it. Problem is, the dealer says they can't even order the part until January. I am hoping the parts aren't available because they are working on an upgrade to solve this problem. My fear is the issue is something else that is causing these units to fail. Otherwise it will keep happening. I picked up my truck yesterday and I guess for now I'll just have to wait.Another truck with the same issue. 2018 Dodge Ram 2500. Parts were replaced under warranty in 2020, and now I'm 2 months past the repair warranty and thus was quoted almost $2,000 for replacement of the ABS module and Hydraulic Control. No guarantee that it won't happen a third time as well...
The new HCU is a different number and hopefully will last longer. Mine was replaced in May 2022 with the old part, and I am fully expecting it to fail within 40k miles. Then I will get the new model that hopefully will not fail. I suspect you have had two of the old versions fail because the new model did not appear until the last half of this year. As Lawdog328. said "the Anit-lock Brake System Hydraulic Control Unit part # 68143491AB (that supersedes defective part # 68143491AA) is on nation back order." Previously only the ABS module was in short supply and I have not heard if that is still a problem.I had almost the exact same issue. I did a quick review of all 347 post and this is what I found:
158 members reported having ABS Pump Motor Control (Hydraulic Control Unit) failure codes on their 2017 - 2018 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 or 5500 series trucks
9 members report having to replace the Hydraulic Control Unit TWICE! on the same vehicle. The shortest mileage between replacements was 1000 miles. The longest mileage between replacement was 32,500 miles.
The earliest reported failure was 4K miles and the longest was 138K miles.
The average mileage at failure is 41K.
Please keep in mind the numbers are rounded and not everyone provided complete information about their trucks and I did not use information from outside the 2017-2018 model years.
Thanks. That is somewhat reassuring they have taken some sort of action to improve the part. The new HCU is a different number and hopefully will last longer. NHTSA opened an investigation into this matter on November 28, 2022: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/2022/INOA-PE22012-9925.PDF I found two articles on the investigation: Heavy Duty RAM Trucks Under Investigation For Braking Performance Loss | Carscoops and Ram HD Pickup Brake Failures Being Investigated By NHTSA@ramcares

File a report with NHTSA and hope for a recall.I have a 2017 2500 ram at $24,000 miles are replaced both the ABS module and the electronic brake module and now I have 46,000 miles on it and it's doing it again hope ram comes through with a fix cuz I don't want to pay for this again. Dave greenville
Question, now is the ABS actually damaged or it's just your dash that says you need it serviced? .... if it's the latter then I will tell you guys a story about that later on lol ...I have a 2017 2500 ram at $24,000 miles are replaced both the ABS module and the electronic brake module and now I have 46,000 miles on it and it's doing it again hope ram comes through with a fix cuz I don't want to pay for this again. My RAM 2018 2500 exactly same problems with break system flashing after a couple visits to dealer they found after market electric start wired into wrong wire that was causing all the kayos the many problems of check ABS Break System, Electronic Break system, my dash would look like a Christmas tree all lit up and even went black my gauges went haywire my truck actually would take time for it to start, my key fob would remove from start and it would not turn off. Luckily for me, the Planet Dodge Dealer found out after a couple of visits the TECH person discovered it and since then about 6 weeks ago no problem and I have tested it on all kinds of roads and 4x4 to be sure it has not reappear.curious your affiliation with RAM?
