Shift Knob Safety Concern

In order to shift from parking to drive requires to step on the brake first and the same thing when shift from D to P or D to R.
But if I put on the parking brake when in D, I can easily switch from D to R and D to P.

what brothers me the most is if someone turn the knob by accident from Drive to Reverse or Drive to Parking while the truck is moving. Is it even possible??

With a fully computer controlled 8 speed I'm sure the programmers added code to the system to prevent a "Neutral Drop" hole shot at any speed.

As for the camera coming on in reverse, at speed, well? IDK. :wow:

Most any idiot following too closely becomes "scared/aware" when you turn on your flashers... works 99% of the time...

Then the universal finger signal follows!
If your trailer fell off the hitch you'd know it whether you have a camera or not
I guess I should have put a smiley face at the end of my post.:hah:

I seem to recall that sometime around 1955, GM came out with a ratcheting Parking Pawl in the Buick or Pontiac
People had been shearing the pin off by trying to force the column shifter into Park
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a reason that you can shift from forward to reverse & reverse to forward
the best way to get unstuck from mud or snow is to rock the vehicle back & forth, it is even mentioned in your owners manual

It works best if you have a standard shift transmission, but you can do it with the automatic

I call bullshit on throwing it into park .
Mine goes into park when i'm reversing out of my driveway and i accidently turn the knob the wrong way.
Suddenly your jerked to a halt, yes boys it will go into park while moving.
Being left handed i've done it a few times now, thrown it into park by accident while in reverse, leaving my driveway, flipping embarrassing, never had that problem with a column or console shifter.
The knob isn't one of Fiats better ideas in my opinion
I can also shift mine in and out drive and neutral with-out stepping on brake as long as the trucks moving.
Coasting to a stop i throw it into neutral and back into drive with-out stepping on the brakes, haven't tried going as far as reverse yet:LOL:

It will go in at low speed I've done it too. There's no mechanical connection between the knob and the transmission, it's all computer controlled. So the computer will make the decision wether your speed is low enough for park. And like mentioned above even if it were to go into park at speed the park pawl would just bounce off the gear and make a really cool buzzing noise.

OK I had to try this today. Never really thought about it in the first 2 years of ownership. I was surprised to see that the rear view camera did in fact come on along with the message in the EVIC saying that the speed was too high to go into reverse. I was disappointed though that it went into neutral though. Maybe Ram does this so the driver knows they turned the knob. I tried to convince my Wife to crawl through the rear slider and across my Bakflip to see if my backup lights were on but she strongly objected.

The shifter knob like the 4wd buttons are just switch's. Hitting them simply sends a request to the computer and if your within certain perimeters it will do it, if not your not getting anything.

IE its not going to let you shift into 4Lo and reverse at 60. OTOH old trucks with levers would, if you really wanted to you could blow stuff up.

I noticed the other day while backing up and not quite fully
stopped, being a bit quick turning the knob to drive made a
weird noise not a clunk but more of a cough :str:
