On my 06 I could pull the - battery terminal for five minutes and the code would be gone.

 

You could have a defective gas cap . Replace it with a new one and see if it clears up .

 

You may have a faulty gas cap. Even if it's tight and looks good, doesn't mean it is. There are also some leaks that can simulate a loose gas cap....thereby giving the same code, so trying a different gas cap to rule that out is good starting point. :smileup:

Havin same problem n my 07 1st pulled the terminals nd cleared up for a few days came up again bought new gascap nd pulled the terminals was clearfor a week or so nd just pooped out again last night -_- how did urs go go or how did u clear it up?o

 

Gas Cap

yeah, my engine light keeps coming on because I'm sure my gas cap is no good. I took it off and reinstalled it a couple of times, sometimes the light would go out, sometimes not. When it's due for Smog, I'll put a new one on.:gy:

 

Same here but I did get a new one so maybe its somethin else that's y I wn2 find out if maybe u did somethin else

 

I have same problem, replaced gas cap, still throwin codes. Going to have to put it on a smoke machine to find leak I guess.

 

Check the hose connection(s) (small hose) at the top of the filler neck. This is the vent line, and can cause the same error code.

 

I second what Brad said... that happened to my 1500.. it took a while for the dealer to sort it out.

 

Anyone figure out this problem? I am having the same trouble. Replaced cap still happening even tried plastic sheet under cap but it tripped the code again. I have been reading that it may be the ECIM switch. I don't want to pay dealer prices for a diagnosis, has anyone heard of the switch going bad on the canister?

 

Just a point, emissions warranty goes much further than the 3yr/80000km mark. I cannot recall how far, but it might be worth a call to the dealer instead of beating your head against the wall. Probably need a pressure smoke test to see where the leak is.

 

I have the same issue on my 03 jeep liberty with the 3.7L. I SWEAR to god the light would go out everytime I took it to the dealer. Pulling the battery cable makes it go away for a while. Replaced the gas cap, came right back on. we have been driving it for 90,000 miles with the light on. Runs like a champ so I said to heck with it. It's about the only light bulb Chrysler makes that refuses to burn out!

 

some things that cause this light to lite up
gas cap seal
vent hose has a small tear
hose that goes to the charcoal canister bad
also there is a switch under the cab, just about where your heel rests, maybe it is dirty or the wires may be loose
sometimes the charcoal canister messes up, i believe it is usually up by the headlight, i don't know which side though

 

I replaced mine on my '07 with an OEM UNIT. Haven't had a problem since.

 

lube up the rubber seal on the gas cap. that fixed my code issue before.

 

On my 04 I kept getting EVAP codes. I looked around the EVAP can and couldnt find anything. I took it into the shop, what was happening was my rear trans seal went out and the trans fluid was leaking on a hose to the EVAP can. That caused it to swell up, crack and throw a code.
